Elderberry - the magical supplement that boosts my toddlers immune system

Last year we were only half way into cold and flu season and my oldest daughter Brynlee was getting sick every other week, she had so many colds that I had lost count. Bryn has had this habit of sucking her ring and middle finger since she was an infant (continuously telling people to "rock on" 🤘), so we were always extra cautious to wash and sanitise her hands on the regular but it didn't seem to matter. Almost every time she was sick it seemed she would also carry a high fever and the whole process was becoming very exhausting for our poor little bug and mommy and daddy. Treating her cold and flu symptoms was equally as hard as Bryn has always been our strong willed little love who knows what she likes and definitely what she does not like....childrens tylenol or advil. Trying to administer medicine was like taming a wild bull and the bull always won. The only way we could administer to bring down a fever was via suppository which wasn't enjoyable for anyone either. Short of placing her in a bubble to protect her from any germs which clearly was not a viable option, we needed a way to build her immune system to fight off these viruses. Turning back to where I always end up, natural medicine, is where I found our magical solution...sambucus, or how its more widely known, elderberry. It has worked so well for us that I just had to share.

Elderberry is a dark blue/purple berry found in Europe and North America that has been used for centuries as a remedy to cure colds and treat infections, influenza, headaches and dental pain amongst others. It is jam packed with vitamins and antioxidants and today is most commonly used for its ability to boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, lessen stress and prevent and shorten cold and flu symptoms. After researching all of the benefits of the elderberry it was a no-brainer that I was going to start giving it to Bryn daily. I'm telling you guys, this super berry is made of magic!!

First attempts at giving Bryn elderberry were unsuccessful as I purchased kids elderberry syrup and as mentioned above, taking anything new orally was a big giant NO in her books. I tried masking the syrup in with beverages and using it to make homemade elderberry gummies but she just refused it all. Then I stumbled across kids elderberry crystals made by flora health. Total game changer! I could dissolve these crystals in with any beverage and she would drink it. The crystals became a supplement I would give Bryn daily as a preventative (without her knowing of course) and made a huge difference to her health. She no longer caught every single cold and flu that circulated and the rare cold that she did catch didn't last nearly as long and would even run its course without a fever! Magic in a jar this stuff is! I swear by this product, and have even started taking elderberry myself around cold and flu season. A year later and elderberry is still one of the daily supplements we give Bryn; can't stop, won't stop 😂. I am sure my friends and family have gotten tired of my one word response whenever they are sick; "elderberry" (in any form), but it really truly works!! To all you mamma's out there who's kids are constantly battling colds and flus - get you some elderberry. :)
