My entire life I have had fine hair but lots of it and was never able to only wash my hair once per week but rather got use to my every other or ever third day wash routine. It wasn't until I was pregnant with my first daughter that my hair went through a huge transformation. Suddenly I had the hair of a goddess - thick, soft, shiny, strong, healthy, and it would remain clean longer between washes. I knew my newly acquired hair couldn't last forever but to my hairdressers and my surprise - it did! I had read stories of other women's gorgeous pregnancy hair falling out in clumps postpartum but luckily that never happened to me. Two years later I became pregnant with my second daughter and still my hair remained unchanged. Fast forward to 4 months postpartum with my second and my hair went through yet another transformation. My hair didn't begin to fall out but instead became extremely oily at the roots and never felt clean after being washed. Now I know what some of you might be thinking: perhaps #momming got in the way and I wasn't following my regular wash, rinse and repeat routine but I can assure you that was not the case. As if getting ready after a shower wasn't hard enough with two little ones, now this excessive oil build up was causing my hair to knot at the root and combing through it was torture.

I tried everything I could think of; changing shampoos and conditioners, switched to a silk pillow case, stopped wearing my hair up (perhaps my #mombun was causing the problem), stopped letting my hair air-dry, refrained from using styling products, pretty much anything myself or my hairdresser could think of. The only explanation by process of elimination was that my hormones and perhaps breastfeeding could be causing this excess oil build-up. Unwilling to accept defeat and unable to find a product that made my hair feel clean, I started thinking of DIY hair remedies. I had used DIY remedies in the past on my hair but always to hydrate and replenish (egg and lemon juice, mashed avocado..), now i needed the opposite. I got to thinking of the #poofree movement a couple years back and thought I would give apple cider vinegar a try. To my surprise, hallelujah, it worked!!! Below is recipe I used.

Apple Cider Hair Rinse:

- 2 Tbs Apple Cider Vinegar

- 1 cup water

Mix apple cider vinegar with water to dilute it. Wash hair as per usual and when done pour the mixture onto your roots, focusing on problem areas. Let the mixture sit on the hair for a couple minutes then rinse.

It was that simple ladies! I didn't use the vinegar solution every day as I was worried about drying out my hair and causing damage but just when I felt I needed it. As for my postpartum #greasyhair, it only ended up lasting a few months (thank goodness). So to all you postpartum, breastfeeding, hormone fluctuating, greasy hair mammas out there, I hope this little trick works for you and hang in there!!
